How we look after shared areas in council homes
Some of our council homes (mainly flats and shared accommodation) have shared communal areas such as:
- parking areas
- gardens
- paths
- entrance halls
- staircases
- kitchens and bathrooms
We make sure that these areas are in good working order.
Do not leave, store or dispose of any items in shared areas including buggies and prams.
Any items found in the communal areas will be removed and stored without warning. We’ll charge £25 per item to reclaim these. Low value items such as doormats will be thrown away.
Fire safety doors
Our flat blocks are fitted with fire safety doors, which are engineered safety devices and should never be tampered with. If you have any concerns about your fire safety door, contact us on 0800 0281 870.
For your safety and security, it is important to make sure that external doors and internal fire doors are kept closed. They should never be wedged open.
Cleaning in shared areas
Shared areas are cleaned regularly by one of our contractors. However, please keep these areas tidy and clean up after yourself if you spill something.
Shared gardens
We keep shared outdoor areas tidy and safe for our tenants by:
- cutting grass, inspecting trees and pruning shrubs and hedges
- keeping paths and car parks clear of overhanging plants and treating them with herbicide to stop moss and weeds
- clearing fallen leaves between October and January
- picking up litter during their visits
- recycling grass cuttings and prunings that can be used on lawns and flowerbeds
Bin stores
The storage areas provided for bins should be kept clear for all residents.
If the bins have not been emptied, you can report a missed bin collection online.
