We’ve done much work over the last decade to halt the decline of this special habitat.

In managing our internationally important heathlands, we organise and oversee work across our sites. These are carried out with the agreement of Natural England and are largely funded by Higher Level Stewardship.

Positive management will help save and protect the remainder of our heaths and their rare flora and fauna. This includes routine maintenance, mainly involving tree and scrub removal during autumn and winter.

This is done because many of the plants and wildlife on our heaths need a relatively treeless landscape to survive.

Our largest scale work is on Canford Heath, with significant work also undertaken on Ham Common and Bourne Valley. All three are Sites of Special Scientific Interest.
