Ending your council home tenancy
If you decide to move out of your home, you can use our online form to let us know.
You cannot use this form for ending your temporary accommodation tenancy.
Alternatively, you can call us on 0800 028 1870 or email bcphomes.operationsteam@bcpcouncil.gov.uk to request an end of tenancy form.
Make sure you consider your actions before ending your tenancy. Speak to our support team or your housing officer for more advice or get legal advice if it is needed.
Notice period
You will need to give us at least 4 weeks’ notice before the date you want to leave, this will be your notice period. The notice period must start on a Monday and when you are ready to return your keys, they must be handed in on the Monday your tenancy ends before 10am.
When you are in your notice period to end your tenancy, your housing officer will get in touch with you to arrange a pre-void inspection where they will make note of any repairs that are needed and let you know if you are responsible for any repairs or alterations. They can also give general advice about the end of tenancy process.
If the tenant has passed away
If the tenant has passed away, a relative or the person responsible for their affairs will need to contact us to end the tenancy using any of the above methods. A copy of the death certificate will be required. We will support the family through the notice period and provide advice if it is needed.
Returning your keys
Keys must be returned in a clearly marked envelope for the attention of BCP Homes with the property address.
