WellComm

All group providers should now have a WellComm Toolkit available for their use. Childminders can borrow the toolkits from their local family support hub. Contact your Early Years and Childcare advisor if you can't access a toolkit.

How the toolkit is used

All staff with Key Person responsibilities use the WellComm Toolkit with their children.

All children should be screened using the toolkit so you can tell where they are in their communication and language, and identify any delays as soon as possible.

Vulnerable groups should be screened more regularly to make sure children at the most risk of a delay are identified early.

Any children that are in need of support are regularly re-screened, at least once every half term.

Once the toolkit is used, individual children will get a prompt intervention using the Big Book of Ideas to develop next steps. An Individual Education Programme (IEP) can be used if necessary.

The screening results are shared:

  • with parents, to provide a consistent approach between the home and the setting
  • with other professionals and during referrals, such as Come Talk with Me or Speech and Language Therapy (SALT)

WellComm Toolkit training and advice

GL Assessment now offer training videos for the WellComm Toolkit. These are available on their website and provide a step-by-step guide on preparing for and completing screening.

You can also book on to a WellComm Toolkit workshop on Skillgate. This provides a training video and support links to watch at a time suitable for you. If you have issues accessing the website please email cpdenquiries@bcpcouncil.gov.uk.

WellComm Report Wizard

The WellComm Report Wizard is a secure online tool that enables the user to quickly and accurately calculate scores. This improves the accuracy of scoring over scoring by hand.

You can also produce customisable reports in the Report Wizard. The individual reports signpost targeted interventions (found in the Big Book of Ideas) to suit each child’s personal profile.

You can learn how to use the wizard in GL Assessment's training video.
