Further support for communication language and literacy
Come Talk with Me communication language and support
These groups are for children aged two or three years who have difficulties with their communication and language development.
They are run by Elklan trained early years practitioners in family hubs across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
Please use your Communication Journeys to help you identify if a child would benefit from support and then complete a WellComm assessment. You will also find useful information on the Come Talk with Me flowchart which will help you identify the best referral route for children with communication and language difficulties.

If you feel Come Talk with Me is appropriate for a child, you must:
- get parental permission
- read the early help request for involvement guide below
- submit a request through the portal, linked in the guide
When you complete the request, make sure to:
- complete all relevant sections
- leave sections blank if they are not relevant
- upload the most recent WellComm assessment during the process
- complete the Come Talk with Me section
The family hub will then contact the parent to discuss the support they can access.

Come Talk with Me support is not appropriate for children with pronunciation difficulties, or where a WellComm screening shows that a child is more than a year below the level for their age. In these cases please use the Graduated Response Toolkit to inform early intervention strategies and direct parents to attend one of the Speech Therapy Early Advice Drop Ins (Ready S.T.E.A.D.I Chat).
Ready S.T.E.A.D.I Chat
Speech Therapy Early Advice Drop Ins are the new easy access pathway to speech and language therapy for early years children.
The Ready STEADI Chat website details where and when the sessions are taking place. The timetable for sessions running in the BCP area can be found under Dorset East & Central.
