How to start Elective Home Education (EHE) with your child
If your child is already enrolled at a school, you must tell the headteacher in writing that you want to take them out of school to educate them at home. The school will let us know, and we'll contact you to check some basic information. This includes a brief outline of how you intend to educate your child at home.
If we're satisfied that the information you give us shows that you are able to give your child a suitable education at home, we'll contact you again on a yearly basis to get an update on their education. Our yearly contact could be:
- a home visit
- a phone call
- a video call
- an email
If at any point you move home or your child starts going to school, let us know as soon as possible.
Depending on your circumstances and your preferences,
If the information you provide to describe your child’s home education does not satisfy us that your child is getting a suitable education, we will be in touch with you to seek further details and to offer information, advice and guidance.
