Aiming to improve safety and encouraging more people to walk, cycle or use public transport, the next phase of major infrastructure improvements to the Wallisdown area will soon commence.

From Monday 29 March to Friday 2 April, the final phase of works at Boundary Roundabout will be taking place. This will require overnight closures of the roundabout in all directions from 7pm to 7am each night.

This scheme is delivering safer, cycle and pedestrian facilities at Boundary Roundabout and adjoining roads, including Talbot Avenue, Boundary Road, Wallisdown Road and Gillett Road. It commenced last summer and is being completed on schedule.

At the western end of the Wallisdown corridor, the next phase for delivering improved walking, cycling and public transport facilities in this area will commence on Tuesday 6 April.

For safety reasons, this will require the closure of Wallisdown Road to eastbound traffic for approximately 4 weeks. Construction works will be focusing on south side of Wallisdown Road West between Mountbatten Arms Roundabout and the western end of Benbow Crescent. A diversion will be in place for eastbound traffic via Ringwood Road, Wimborne Road and the A347.

Councillor Mike Greene, BCP Council Portfolio Holder for Transport and Sustainability, said:

"The Wallisdown Corridor is the focus of several infrastructure improvement and investment schemes, which commenced last year and are progressing on time and to schedule. In advance of the latest works, please plan ahead and consider whether it might be possible to avoid driving through this area.

"Improving access along this key route, these schemes are enhancing sustainable transport links across our conurbation. This will help to support local economic recovery and reduce journey times, while also contributing positively towards our wider transforming travel initiative and declared climate and ecological emergency.’’
