You can now book a visit to Highcliffe Castle for 2025 and enjoy an entirely new visitor experience which includes a stained-glass display of international importance.
Early this year Highcliffe Castle marked the official end of The Phoenix Flies project, made possible by The National Lottery Heritage Fund. The project which began in 2017, has seen restoration of the East Wing, and an increase in the number of rooms that visitors can experience from 4 to 17! It is a unique opportunity to see a Grade 1 listed building, such as Highcliffe Castle restored almost to its full glory after having survived two devastating fires.
New for 2025 is the launch of the exquisite stained-glass collection full of internationally important pieces that have each been painstakingly brought back to life by the talented Conservator, Sarah Jarron. Most of the stained glass is a lot older than the Castle itself, dating between c.1400 and 1830, with the entire collection comprising over 150 pieces.
This is an opportunity to bring the whole family and see these beautiful pieces up close not just up high in a church or cathedral window.
Recently, Highcliffe Castle was proud to win a bronze award for "Small Visitor Attraction of the Year" and another for "Wedding Venue of the Year" at the 2025 Dorset Tourism Awards
Stuart McLeod, Director England - London & South at The National Lottery Heritage Fund, said: “We are delighted to have supported Highcliffe Castle with money raised by National Lottery players. This project has enabled the conservation of a unique collection of stained glass as well as providing opportunities for people to explore the past and create stories for the future.”
Cllr Andy Martin, Portfolio Holder for Customer, Communications and Culture said: “I was delighted to attend the launch of the beautiful stained-glass exhibition, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship.
“It is a rare opportunity to explore unseen treasures and a cultural site with such significant international importance, so I encourage everyone to book their visit today and experience this remarkable display of art and heritage.”
Cllr Richard Herrett, Portfolio Holder for Destination, Leisure and Commercial Operations also commented: “The restoration and expansion of Highcliffe Castle would not have been possible without the generous funding from the Lottery Heritage Fund.
“By improving facilities and expanding our offer, we’re attracting more visitors, boosting tourism, and creating new commercial opportunities that will support the Castle’s long-term sustainability.”
