An illuminated yellow sign that reads 'taxi'

Changes are being proposed to Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council’s hackney carriage and private hire policies - and it’s time to have your say.

It’s important the policy works for everyone and that is why the council is keen to hear from those who live, work, and travel within Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.

BCP’s current hackney carriage and private hire driver policy is up for renewal and a number of changes have been proposed to ensure the Council is up to date with relevant legislation and practices.

The views of residents are crucial to informing council policy and a public consultation has now been launched before the policy goes to the Licensing Committee for approval later this year.

External stakeholders have been consulted on the changes, with taxi trade representatives invited to workshops to create this draft policy.

Cllr Kieron Wilson, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Regulatory Services, has responsibility for licensing policy and said: “This public consultation is about hearing what residents have to say about a service that is used by so many people in our communities.

“We want to hear from people who live, work, visit, and travel in our area so that our taxi policy can deliver for those that use it.

“The changes that are being proposed would bring a unified policy across our three towns and we are keen to hear from residents and stakeholders as part of this consultation because, ultimately, their feedback will inform the next stages of the process.”

The public consultation starts on March 3 and closes at 11.59pm on April 28 2025; it can be completed online at haveyoursay.bcpcouncil.gov.uk/taxi-policy-consultation, and paper copies of the consultation documents can be collected at any of BCP’s libraries.
