Plans to improve bus services from Bournemouth town centre have been drawn up - and now the Council wants to hear from you.
Residents, businesses, and commuters are all invited to have their say as part of a consultation which will run for the next month.
It’s important that the plans improve services for everyone that uses them and that’s why Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council is keen to get feedback from as many people as possible.
The proposed Bus Service Improvement Plan covers the area between Bournemouth Travel Interchange and the town centre, a route used by many buses, and follows a comprehensive engagement exercise carried out last year.
This initial engagement found that 72% of respondents supported the scheme’s four main objectives –
- Improving journey times and reduce delays for buses by providing two way bus movements along Old Christchurch Road
- Encouraging greater bus use by improving passenger waiting facilities with Real Time Information displays and CCTV
- Reducing congestion for all vehicles
- Improving access to Bournemouth town centre and Lansdowne
As a result, the Plan has been further developed and include improvements in Holdenhurst Road, Old Christchurch Road, Hinton Road, Gervis Place, and Westover Road.
Cllr Andy Hadley, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Sustainable Travel at BCP Council, said: “This consultation will enable us to hear the views of those that live, work and commute across Bournemouth - and, crucially, those that could make use of our existing bus service.
“We want to hear from as many people as possible so that this Plan can deliver improvements for those that use the service. The feedback we get as part of this consultation will help inform the next stages of the process.”
The improvement proposals are available to view here.
They may also be seen in person at the Bournemouth Travel Interchange Information Office, Coach Station (underneath Asda), Holdenhurst Road, Bournemouth, BH8 8DN. The office is open from 0800-1315 and 1415-1700 each day.
