Community food project Poole Waste Not Want Not has spread a little bit of happiness by delivering festive hampers to those struggling to afford a proper Christmas lunch.

The member-based social supermarket has distributed over 140 hampers to individuals and families, each receiving a fresh turkey or gammon, all the trimmings, sweet treats and puddings, and Christmas gift or toy.

“We believe that nobody should do without at Christmas,” said Erike Sloper, Charity Project Manager. “These hampers will relieve some of the financial and emotional pressure the festive season can bring those whose budget is already stretched.

“It has been a real community effort, made possible thanks to the fantastic support of our volunteers, local businesses who were so generous with their donations and time, and the toy gifts kindly given through Wave 105’s Mission Christmas campaign.”

Alongside the hampers, the charity also held two Christmas meals for their members on 19 and 20 December so that those that live alone can enjoy lunch and socialise with others.

Poole Waste Not Want Not, established in 2020, is a member-based community ship that supports eligible individuals and families who are struggling to maintain a nutritious diet due to financial hardship. It is just one of over 140 community food projects and services that form part of the Access to Food Partnership.
