The synthetic turf football pitches at 2 Riversmeet Leisure Complex in Christchurch are ready for the new season following their recent refurbishment.
The improvement works, which placed the 3G pitches out of bounds for five weeks, saw a full resurfacing in line with FA regulations.
Kick boards were also added around the perimeters to help stop the rubber crumb spreading beyond the pitch.
Funded by BCP Council’s Strategic Community Infrastructure Levy Fund using monies from the Future Infrastructure Programme Board, the maintenance was undertaken to ensure the pitches remain match fit.
Councillor Millie Earl, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Connected Communities commented:
"As part of our Playing Pitch Strategy we’re continually improving and maintaining our facilities, enabling active, healthy lifestyles amongst our residents.
"Our synthetic turf football pitches at 2 Riversmeet Leisure Complex are very popular with over 50 regular adult and junior teams using these pitches each week, alongside many ad-hoc bookings, our seniors walking football group, and Monday night adult leagues, so this maintenance was very much needed.
"These pitches benefit a huge footballing community and we’re keen to encourage more local schools and colleges to make use of them."
Eric Trengove, Honorary Secretary, Christchurch Beachcombers Walking Football (pictured) commented:
"Our twice weekly walking football sessions are very popular with the over 55s age group. We currently have around 60 members signed up to the team and we play in all weathers, so these resurfacing works are very much welcomed by all our members!"
