School visits and class trips to the library

We can help teachers and schools arrange a class visit to one of our libraries, or we can come to your school for a talk or assembly to promote reading programmes such as the Summer Reading Challenge.

We can also help develop a partnership project between your school and your local library, to link to your curriculum or national campaigns. We also deliver the Yoto Carnegie Shadowing Scheme.

To find out more, book a class visit or to discuss your ideas for collaborative projects, contact your local library or email libraryliteracyofficers@bcpcouncil.gov.uk.

Visit the library with your class

We offer different free events throughout the year. Sessions last between 40 and 60 minutes. Example sessions include an introduction to:

  • the library service and what they can get with their free membership
  • reading for pleasure and how to find books for all levels and interests
  • the Dewey Decimal classification system used at the library, so pupils can search for books they need for school or want to read
