You should report fallen leaves, pine needles or fir cones to us if you think they are:
- becoming a trip and slip hazard to pedestrians
- breaking down and blocking gullies (road drains)
We will only clear fallen leaves, pine needles or fir cones if they are on:
- public land (such as the seafront, parks or playgrounds)
- roads
- pavements
- cycle lanes
How we deal with fallen leaves, pine needles and fir cones
We schedule sweeping of roads and pavements where needed every 12 to 16 weeks (more frequent in busy town centres and main roads).
We can not:
- clean under or between tightly parked vehicles
- collect leaves as they fall – many tonnes of leaves, needles and cones are stripped from trees during rainfall and high winds (these can take 4 to 6 weeks to clear)
- provide times or dates for cleansing visits, this is due to:
- the availability of our resources
- emergency works
- weather conditions
How you can help
We are not responsible for clearing leaves from private property.
You can dispose of leaves by:
- using our garden waste collection service
- taking them to one of our household waste collection and recycling centres
- compositing them at home
Please do not sweep leaves from your private property into the road.
