Report a dog attack

A dog attack is any incident where a dog rushes at, bites, attacks, harasses, or chases a person or animal, even if no injury is caused.

It is a criminal offence for the person in charge of a dog to allow it to be dangerously out of control in a public place.

If your animal is attacked by another dog, you must report it to us as soon as possible.

Though we can take certain actions, we cannot force dog owners to pay for your injured animal’s vet bills.

Report a dog attack on a person

Report a dog attack on a person to the police by calling:

• 101 for a non-emergency
• 999 for an emergency

If the incident is taken to court, you may be asked to give a witness statement. A court could send a dog owner to prison or ban them from owning a dog.
