Theme 5 Local Transport
Car use and transport
Boscombe has a high number of car movements through the area yet the ward of Boscombe West has one of the lowest levels of car ownership in the BCP Council area.
Sustainable travel improvements
We will develop a number of projects aimed at improving access by means other than the car. We will improve bus access to Boscombe pier, improve signage to AFC Bournemouth, introduce more cycle lanes and make walking safer.
Where we are now
The following four projects have been identified and prioritised to promote more sustainable travel around the Boscombe area:
- Network improvements – A35 between Woodland Walk and Boscombe Precinct. Dedicated cycle and footpaths and public realm.
- Mini-bus service: Pokesdown Station to Boscombe Pier via Hawkwood Road. A pilot service ran between April and October 2023 during off peak hours and from July 2024 to Sept 2024.
- Local walking improvements on Ashley Road. Focusing on safety and improving walkability between Centenary Roundabout and Kings Park Academy.
- Woodland Walk - local walking and park improvements
