Changes to Commercial waste collections

The Government’s ‘Simpler recycling’ reforms mean all businesses will need to recycle their waste from next March.

What will change

Under new national regulations, all businesses, health and social care establishments and academic institutions must separate recyclable materials and food waste from their refuse and arrange collections.

You will need separate bins for refuse, recycling and food waste.

You have until 31 March 2025 to get separate collections in place, unless you're a smaller business with less than ten full-time employees, in which case you have until 31 March 2027.

Timeline for changes to Commercial waste collections
Start date Changes
31 March 2025 Deadline for businesses, schools and hospitals with more than 10 full time employees to be compliant
31 March 2027 Deadline for business with fewer than ten full-time employees to be compliant
31 March 2027 Plastic bags and wrapping will be added to the items we can recycle in our recycling service

Our Commercial waste services offer separate collections of refuse, recycling and food waste.
