How you can help house Ukrainian refugees

We are looking for landlords, agents and people with lodgings who can help Ukrainian refugees find a place to live.

Landlords or agents can offer private tenancies for Ukrainian refugees for a minimum of 6 months. By doing so they can receive:

  • a £1,000 thank you payment
  • the first month's rent paid in advance
  • a deposit of one month's rent

Tenants will receive up to £2,000 for furniture and items to help make the house a home.

If you can offer a room in your home for rent to a lodger you can receive:

  • a £1000 thank you payment (this will be after the initial 12 months if it's a transition from hosting a guest or after 6 months if lodging arrangement is new)
  • the first month's rent paid in advance
  • a deposit of one month's rent
  • support to set up a rental agreement
  • training and support for landlord and lodger

If you can offer a room in a licenced House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) you can receive:

  • a £500 thank you payment
  • up to £2,000 for repairs and maintenance (per HMO address)
  • first month's rent paid in advance
  • deposit of one month's rent
  • support to set up an agreement
  • £500 for each tenant, for furniture and items to help make the HMO a home.

We must inspect each property before accepting you into the scheme and providing payments. This is to make sure the space meets a good standard of living.

We'll request gas safety and energy performance certificates if you are providing a private home.
