A licensed Hackney Carriage or Private Hire vehicle includes both the vehicle and the licence plate. They are never dealt with separately.

If you sell the licensed vehicle to someone else or change the current proprietors to add or remove an individual, you will need to transfer the licence to reflect these changes.

• A transfer or change to the vehicle licence holder must be authorised by all interested parties
• Any transfer or change to vehicle licence holder must be confirmed by all interested parties

How to register a change

To register a transfer or change the vehicle licence holders, email taxi.privatehire@bcpcouncil.gov.uk with the vehicle registration and names of all persons involved.

You will then receive the transfer forms, guidance on the documents required, along with payment instructions.

Verification

We will contact people being removed from a licence and they will need to confirm they are aware of the change and that they consent to the change.

If the licensed vehicle is being transferred to a new owner or additional owners are being added to the licence, each person will need to provide evidence that they meet our requirements and conditions.

Once all checks have been completed, the new licence will be sent to the main licence holder as stated on the application.
