A Personal licence allows an individual to be a Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) at a licensed premise that sells or supplies alcohol.
You can apply for a personal licence if you:
- are 18 years old or over.
- have an accredited Level 2 qualification for Personal licence holder.
- have not had a personal licence forfeited in the last 5 years.
- have not been convicted of any relevant offence or any foreign offence.
- have proof of your right to work in the UK.
We can only accept applications from individuals who live within the BCP Council area. Before making your application, check your postcode to see which council you should apply to.
How to apply
The application must include:
- a completed application form
- a completed disclosure of convictions and declaration form
- the original or a certified copy of your Level 2 licensing qualification (or equivalent)
- Basic DBS certificate dated within 1 month of your application.
- two photographs of yourself, one which is endorsed as a true likeness of you by a solicitor or notary, a person of standing in the community, or any individual with a professional qualification.
- proof of your right to work in the United Kingdom
- proof of payment - The fee of £37 should be made at BCP Council Online Payments - Select Other BCP Payments – Licensing – Personal Licences, use your full name as a reference number
Email the completed forms, documents and photos to licensing@bcpcouncil.gov.uk.
Licence Expiry Date
Since the 1 April 2015, personal licences are now granted indefinitely with no expiry date. If you hold a personal licence that has an expiry date this remains valid indefinitely and the expiry date should be disregarded. If you wish to update your licence to remove the expiry date, please see ‘How to update your Licence’.
How to update your licence
You need to notify the Council that originally issued your licence of any changes.
To update the details on your licence, please email your request to licensing@bcpcouncil.gov.uk with the following:
- Your new name and/or address
If you have changed your name, we also need evidence of this such as a copy of your marriage certificate or the deed poll change.
- If you look different to the original photograph on your card, you will also need to provide a current photograph.
- If you are unable to find your licence, please explain what has happened to it in your email.
- Receipt for payment of £10.50 fee.
This should be made at BCP Council Online Payments
Select Other BCP Payments – Licensing – Personal Licences Please enter your personal licence number as the reference.
- You should return the original personal licence. This includes both the paper part and the card.
