Cremation graves

Cremation graves are small graves for the burial of up to 3 sets of ashes. They are available at Bournemouth Crematorium and Wimborne Road Cemetery.

For a cremation grave you’ll need to purchase a Right of Burial. For 50 years this costs £713, with a 10-year extension for £142. The cost of burying a casket or urn is £235.

Memorial permits

You’ll also need to purchase a Memorial Permit.

The maximum width for memorials on cremation graves is 450mm (1ft 6ins).

The cost of a permit is £99 for either:

  • headstones and other memorials up to 900mm high x 375mm long (3ft x 1ft 3ins)
  • kerbs up to 750mm x 450mm (2ft 6ins x 1ft 6ins), including a raised end to kerb up to 225mm high (9ins)
  • a flat stone at or above kerb level covering whole grave space

Permits for a vase which is not part of a memorial cost £50. The maximum size is 200mm x 250mm x 250mm (8ins x 10ins x 10ins).

A permit for additional inscriptions, footstones, additional tablets and replacement memorials is £50.

Additional charges

Charges for people who have died outside Bournemouth are increased by 50 per cent, unless:

  • the grave is reopened for the burial of the deceased, and
  • they lived in Bournemouth at the last interment and
  • they lived outside Bournemouth for less than 10 years
