Recycling centre charges

You can pay your recycling centre charge using a debit or credit card (excluding American Express), contactless payment, Apple Pay or Android Pay.

The site manager's decision on materials and payment will be final.

DIY waste

Residents can visit our recycling centres to dispose of a limited amount of DIY waste for free.

We accept the following DIY items without limit.

Plastic or fibreglass includes:

  • shower trays 
  • baths – plastic
  • shower screens
  • guttering
  • drainage and sewer pipes

Other items:

  • insulation material
  • roofing felt
  • carpet and linoleum

Any waste that is disposed of in the soil and rubble skip such as ceramic basins and toilet pans and cisterns is DIY waste. No charge will be made for ceramic plates and plant pots which are classified as household waste. If you have these items, you will be asked to put them in a different container.

2 x 50 Litre sacks

You may dispose of the following in 2x50 litre sacks.

Glass

Includes:

  • tiles
  • furniture shelving
  • table tops

Concrete

Includes:

  • mortar and rendering
  • cement board
  • mixed or powder
  • breeze blocks
  • paving slabs
  • lintels

Gravel

Includes construction or landscaping gravel or pebbles.

Pottery, ceramics and porcelain

Includes:

  • floor and wall tiles
  • drainage and sewer pipes

Rubble

Includes:

  • bricks
  • hardcore
  • dry and solid Tarmac
  • turf

Sand

Includes:

  • sharp
  • play pit
  • sandbags (used flood defence by householders)

Slate

Includes:

  • roof/slate
  • flagstones

Soil

Includes:

  • soil
  • clay

Stone

Includes:

  • floor
  • wall
  • roof

Tiles

Includes:

  • glass tiles
  • ceramic tiles

Plaster and Plasterboard

Includes other gypsum based DIY items.

Asbestos

Bonded type only. Asbestos must be double wrapped in tough plastic and completely sealed.

1 large item

If you choose to use your weekly allowance as 1 large item up to 200cm x 75cm in size you can dispose of the following.

Glass

Includes a:

  • shower screen
  • plate/sheet glass
  • greenhouse glass

Pottery, ceramic and porcelain

Includes a:

  • bath
  • bidet
  • shower tray
  • sink or basins with pedestal
  • toilet with cistern

Asbestos

Bonded type only. Asbestos must be double wrapped in tough plastic and completely sealed.

Additional charges

The following items and materials brought to the recycling centre are chargeable.

Soil

Once over your free allowance - £2.50 per bag or item.

Hardcore and rubble

Once over your free allowance - £2.50 per bag or item.

Asbestos

Once over your free allowance - £9.50 per bag, £19 per sheet.

Plasterboard

Once over your free allowance - £4 per bag, £16 per sheet.

Flat glass 

Once over your free allowance - £3 per bag, £10 per sheet.

Tyres including rims

£13 per tyre.
Commercial and agricultural tyres are not accepted. There is no charge for bicycle tyres.

Gas canisters and fire extinguishers

We charge:

  • £9.50 per item, up to 10kg
  • £19 per item, up to 20kg
  • £57 per item, over 20kg or specialist containers such as diving tanks

Sizes:

  • a "bag" is a rubble bag no greater than 535mm x 820mm (21 inches x 32 inches)
  • one ceramic basin or one toilet cistern will be charged as one item/bag
  • a sheet of plasterboard is 2.4m x 1.2m
  • a sheet of asbestos is 2.4m x 0.6m
