Street work embargoes

Planning roadworks is complex, with utility and communication companies requesting dates for their projects.

To manage the expected increase in traffic during busy periods, such as Christmas, Easter, summer, and bank holiday weekends, there is an embargo on roadworks on classified roads for planned works.

Street work embargo dates

The embargo dates change each year, but typically they are:

  • Christmas Embargo: From the second Friday in December to the second Monday in January
  • Summer Embargo: From the third Friday in July to the second Monday in September
  • Easter and Bank Holiday weekends

There are two downloadable maps that show the roads and areas affected by the embargoes.
