October is Black History Month with this year’s theme ‘Celebrating Our Sisters’, highlighting the crucial role that black women have played in shaping history, inspiring change, and building communities.

Throughout the month, there are several events taking place across Bournemouth that showcase inspiring black women who have made remarkable contributions to society.

On Thursday 26 October, BCP Council’s Race and Cultural Diversity Staff Network Group are hosting an event to promote the work done by colleagues in and around Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.

Come and join us at Bournemouth’s Gateway Building, 12 Saint Paul's Lane, BH8 8GP (opposite Bournemouth Railway Station) from 7 – 9pm to hear from these exceptional women and find out about the work they do across our local communities to enhance everyone’s health, strength, lives and livelihood.

Other events taking place during October include Black History Month Roadshows in the Dolphin Centre, Poole on various dates with several different activities taking place.

Hear from novelist Manjeet Mann at her ‘Run the World’ event, where she talks about her award-winning novel ‘The Crossing’ and her work with Run the World, a charity empowering marginalised women and girls on 12 October.

Vita Nova’s theatre play Hopefool explores what it's like to be a refugee on 16 October, and Black Cherry’s Sea of Creativity in Boscombe, features a rich array of activities including enlightening talks, art exhibits, DJ sessions and more captivating performances.
