Join or start a library reading group

All of our libraries have reading groups and anyone can join. Ask in your local library for advice on joining a group or setting up a new one.

You could also get together with friends and start a reading group that meets in your homes or even the local pub. Ask for a reading group library card to borrow sets of books for your meetings.

Reading group library card

This card allows your group to borrow books from our special collections.

Choose up to 20 titles from the collection, tell us the dates of your meetings and we’ll deliver the books to your local library.

Books can be borrowed for up to 7 weeks and there are 10 available copies of each title, plus large print and audio copies if available. There’s a £1.50 charge for each set of 10 books.

Contact us your local library to see if we can give you a space to hold your group meetings.

Shared reading groups

Shared reading groups are led by a volunteer or staff member, who will read stories and poetry aloud. Everyone is then invited to explore, discuss and comment as the theme unfolds. The groups are dementia friendly, and suitable for adults with visual impairments.
