You must let us know if you are felling a dead, dangerous protected tree or removing dead, dangerous limbs to make the tree safe. This will require at least a 5 day written notice before you go ahead.
If the works are urgent and needed to remove an immediate risk of danger, you should take photos to support your notification. If requested by us, you will need to provide proof that the tree was immediately dangerous or you could face enforcement action.
For a complete list of exceptions see the regulations section 14 for TPOs. Conservation areas are covered in section 15.
Use our online form to notify us.
You will need to tell us:
- the location of the tree (confirming front or rear garden)
- the tree species and how many trees there are
- what defect you are reporting - such as broken branches or a dead tree
You should also attach photos showing the defect and an overall picture of the tree.
